This is another consequence of climate change in this universe. The direction of the Coriolis force reverses, which causes tropical storms to now rotate in the opposite direction, and people to wonder on the Internet why the direction their toilets and bathtubs drain hasn't also changed.

This eventually causes people to finally realise that all that stuff about household drainage patterns is a myth, and they should understand science better. And that's how you can tell this is a fictional universe.
