With me, it's the exact opposite - I keep going down hills with no recollection of actually having gone up that far on the course (and we were speaking specifically of round courses, which should have as much uphill as downhill track).
Clearly, there's some kind of metaphysical altitude exchange between individual cyclists. We still wonder if I'm to blame for benefiting from altitude others have worked for, or if it's their own fault for donating it to me.
