Transcribed painstakingly from the charred remains of the original notes by: Colin F.
The author writes:
Someone accused me of ripping off a punchline from a cartoon in The New Yorker. Strangely, they neglected to mention which strip it was.
EDIT: According to forum members, the most likely candidates are 291, 470, and 680. Can't say I recognised the punchline anywhere.
EDIT 2: The complainer wrote back. Strip 602 has the offending punchline. Since it's plot-relevant, and changing it would lessen the humour, I've left it as-is, and have sent a letter to The New Yorker telling them to change their cartoon.
