The author writes:

Originally, it was going to be Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber from Veggietales on the TV (below). But I decided against it since Garfield clearly wouldn't salivate over vegtables. but when I discovered the presence of a sentient piece of pizza in the relatively new Cartoon Network show Uncle Grandpa, I figured it would be a better idea. I also had thought about using the Annoying Orange, but I decided that wouldn't work either.
