Jon: My date tried to have me arrested for being boring
Jon: And I don't even think it's illegal!
{Garfield poses smugly, / proud of his witticism:}
Garfield: I notice you're not professing innocence
{Jon is standing there / seemingly clad for a date / but he wants to stare}
Jon: I'm staring at you, Garfield!
Jon: What do you think of that?
{Garfield simply stands still / unimpressed by Jon's staring}
Garfield: Heeey, who wouldn't want to stare at me?

The author writes:

Don't ask me why I decided to write what they're doing in tanka. I don't even know. (And yes, I do count "Garfield" as three syllables.)
