Strip by: that guy

{Garfield casually walks past a "Beware of the dog" sign, as he is wont to do. He comes across a dog who looks more than a bit unhinged}
Dog: We come into the world alone and we die alone. Why, in life, should we be any less alone?
{Garfield runs off screaming}
Garfield: YAAAAAHHH!

The author writes:

I always found it hilarious that in the original strip Garfield is apparently horrified by ancient Greek drama. Given that the word "cynic" derives from the Greek word κυνικός ("dog-like"), I thought it would be fitting to use a quote attributed to Diogenes, the most famous of the Cynic philosophers. It seems to have raised some unpleasant memories for Garfield, though.

Original strip: 1996-01-04.
