Strip by: Cartoonosaurus Rex
{Jon and Garfield are in a movie theater watching Teen Wolf, or something. Garfield stares into a box of popcorn, noticing all the popcorn is gone. There are some other people in the background, but they're not important.}
Princess "Peach" Toadstool {off-panel, what with her being captured by Bowser and all}: Mario, HELP!!!
{Garfield gets out of his seat.}
Jon: {not at all concerned about getting kicked out if management finds out he somehow snuck his cat into a movie theater} Where are you going? The movie isn't over yet.
{Garfield is now walking out of the theater, possibly to save the princess despite the fact that the princess specifically called out for Mario, not him. Jon is also still not concerned that Garfield is now exiting the theater in plain sight.}
Garfield: The movie is over when the princess is captured.
The author writes:
Super Mario Bros is 30 years old this year. September 13, 3 decades ago, the mustachioed man from Donkey Kong and Mario Bros was reintroduced as the 'shroom eating', turtle stomping, flame throwing "plumber" (it's not clear if he does any actual plumbing) we know and love today. So, what better way to celebrate than to take a Garfield strip that was printed on the same day the game was released (at least in Japan, it's not clear exactly when the game was released in America) and change almost nothing but the text in the last panel? To be fair, it did take a little effort to rearrange the words (I WOULD use the Garfield font from SoStars like I did in Derpfield, but that sticks out like a sore thumb) and the word "captured" looks a little amateur-ish. But whatareyagonnado? Now that I think about it, how did Jon get Garfield into the movie theater? Someone get on that.
