Garfield: {Running away from Jon} Who wants a hug?
{Jon looks with silence as Garfield runs off}
Garfield: Somebody?
Jon: {Slouches a little and sheds a tear} No hug?
Garfield: Nobody?
{Garfield returns to Jon, who looks at Garfield with surprise}
{Garfield and Jon hugs. Jon became elated}

The author writes:

After seeing the No Hug submission (#584), and remembering that Garfield had his situation of hugging, combining both would be a great idea. I felt that Garfield is at its best when it has heartwarming moments (especially ones involving Jon), since Jon can't seem to catch a break. The initial idea for the mashup was to put a barrier between Garfield and Jon like they can't reach each other, but while editing this strip, I changed the direction when I remembered Garfield hugging Jon in a more recent strip.
