The author writes:

The Sunday comics in Garfield are now largely formulaic, in which you have seven panels after the title panel. There are a couple of Garfield comics that are different. The type of panel you would least expect in a Garfield strip is one that is vertically lengthened. It was a time when there was more freedom of how the strip would look.
