Strip by: Linguanaut

Jon: Garfield, I've decided I should read more!
{Jon is now holding a grey-black book with the cheerfully-formatted word 'SPACE' blazoned across the top and a picture of a '50s style red rocket on the cover}
Jon {reading}: "But if you are me, who did I — "
{Jon looks shocked, and Garfield is looking to the audience with a smile}
Jon: That was a disgusting story
Garfield: Yup

The author writes:

I think the Ulysses strip came across a bit more high-brow than was intended; mostly it happened because I'm way too cheap to buy many new books. Which leads to reading classics, and op-shopping, and digging through old collections at libraries... where you find all sorts of nostalgically wholesome, old books...

One of which Jon has discovered in this strip! Ah, classic sci-fi, where everything was always clean and sanitised. At least until you get enough pages in for the censors to have stopped reading.

(This was a sort-of reference to a real story that was an 'old meme' in sci-fi before memes were memes, though as the story itself is decidedly not PG-rated - you'll just have to take my word on this one - I have taken the identifying details out. If you know, you know, and if you don't - don't worry, you're not missing out on anything that can't be found all over the worst parts of your preferred fan-fiction websites.

And yes, Sonikku A; re: SRoMG #5507 - the Joyce word salad is indeed a nightmare. Like smashing one's forehead repeatedly against a particularly well-built and interesting brick wall.)
