{A group of gods are seated at a table.}

caption: Food of the gods

{Zeus is eating a tuft of ambrosia off a thunderbolt, and drinking a goblet of nectar. The Jade Emperor is seated in front of a bowl of the peaches of immortality. Mohini holds a bottle of amrita. Idunn is about to eat one of her apples. A bar of chocolate (containing theobromine) also lies on the table.}

{Kombu (a Bantu creator god) holds a piece of kombu. Chia (a Colombian moon goddess) holds a bowl of chia. Kale (one of the three Graces) holds a bunch of kale.}

{Muscular (but lean) Zeus holds a muffin baked with "zeucralose". A slender cyclops holds a pack of gum labelled "Cyclipse", made using "cyclitol". A trim-looking Astarte holds a can of Ur Cola (the original cola drink), made using "astartame".}

The author writes:

Theobromine is the only one I've tried, personally, but I'm willing to give the others a go if I can get my hands on them. Mind you, that doesn't necessarily end well in mythology. Tantalus was punished for trying to sneak some ambrosia to other mortals, and one of the crimes of Sun Wukong (Monkey) was stealing peaches of immortality.
