Mr. Vanripple: I appreciate your services, Mr. Oyl, and I'm going to pay you five—
Castor: Five isn't enough, my expenses are heavy—make it six
Mr. Vanripple: You're a bit hoggish, aren't you, Mr. Oyl?
Castor: Not at all, Mr. Vanripple—it's a fair price
Mr. Vanripple: All right, I'll make it six—here's my check
Castor: SIX QUADRILLION DOLLARS!
{Castor faints}
SFX: PLOP
{Popeye arrives on the scene}
Popeye: What's matter, Castor?
Castor: I meant six—six thousand dollars

The author writes:

Yeah, we know Mr. Vanripple actually was throwing around high numbers by 1935 standards... but Castor somehow interpreted a number that would be seen as ridiculous future inflation even by modern standards [as of this submission]! Even more ridiculous than this strip's dimensions—I had to split it into two parts just to work with it! (Of course, I remerged it for the final presentation...) If we paid out one American cent per pixel... the grand total would come out to only $94,443.37—still silly money by 1935 standards...

Original Popeye strip: 1935-01-11.
