They really went overboard with this one in the costuming department. Lenore wears no less than six different costumes in this episode, and Karidian three. That was probably half of their entire costume budget for the first season, right there.
These words recorded in the Captain's log
of twenty eight and seventeen point six:
Kodos the Executioner doth dog
my friend good Doctor Leighton's nervous tics.
Dr Leighton: In this performance of Macbeth on stage
I see the object of my soul's vast rage!
'tis Kodos, Jim, that fiend! Dost thou not see?
That thesp Anton Karidian is he!
Kirk: Kodos is dead, let's speak of this no more.
Dr Leighton: He butchered thousands cold on Tarsus Four!
Those souls have we a duty to avenge!
'tis he, I know it! I shall have revenge!
Kirk: Though fearing he's too quick to lay the blame,
I shall investigate my friend's strange claim.
But first a party brings a chance to score
with suspect actor's daughter fair Lenore.
Kirk: Oh sweet Lenore, thou dost mine heart distend;
It seeks to layeth thee in mine own bed.
Lenore: I should first know what doth thine heart intend...
But oh! What shock! 'tis Doctor Leighton, dead!
Kirk: My wits are torn between these two desires!
Gain vengeance for my friend and bear his cross,
or charm Lenore and quench my loins' hot fires?
But soft, a notion: ¿Por qué no los dos?
Lenore: I thank thee for this lift to our next gig;
In gratitude a play we shall afford.
Kirk: If Riley sees this play he just may twig:
The man who killed his fam'ly is aboard.
McCoy: O, Riley hath been poison'd half to death!
Spock: We must arrest this man who played Macbeth.
Kirk: Not yet, the wheels of justice must be sure;
Plus, this may spoil my chances with Lenore.
Kirk: Karidian! Dost thou Kodos be?!
Karidian: And what think thee, good captain of this ship?
Kirk: Your voiceprint I shall analyse and see.
Karidian: The dogs of wartorn past thou shouldst let slip.
Lenore: And in this play of Hamlet on your boards
my father acts the part of haunted ghost.
Riley: This haunting with my memory accords;
Now phaser shot shall make this killer toast.
Kirk: No Riley, go, and leave this man to me.
Karidian, thou art under arrest.
Lenore: 'twas I killed Leighton, let my father be!
Just thou and Riley more, then we shall rest.
Lenore: O Father, Father! He is dead and gone.
All larded with sweet flowers, rest anon.
The curtain falls - the play, the play's the thing,
Wherein we'll catch the conscience of the king.
