Caption: Volume 1
{Jon holds up a can of cat food and reads from it as Garfield waits for him}
Jon: This evening we're featuring "Winged Things"
{Jon seems surprised at the major ingredient}
Jon: "Choice cuts of oniwatori-sama"
{His eyes settle back to not-so-surprised}
Jon: "Artificial chick flavoring added"
{Garfield smiles}
Garfield: That's what gives it its zing
Caption: Volume 2
{Comic is intentionally distorted}
{Garfield confronts Jon}
Garfield: It's cold in here
{Jon is angry in return}
Jon: You left the door open!
Garfield: One subject at a time, list boy
Caption: Volume 3
{Garfield is walking along when he sees two mouseholes. One is real, and the other is drawn on paper that's been stuck to the wall next to it}
Garfield: Oh, the blight of trompe l'oeil
Caption: Volume 4
{Throughout the strip, Garfield is sitting in a chair, watching television. The first panel simulates how the original strip looks to someone with deuteranope colorblindness. All three original panels have identical coloration}
TV: The monster is coming this way!
TV: Ha! Look how slow it is!
{The second panel simulates protanope colorblindness}
TV: My grandmother could outrun that mon-
TV: EEEEK!
{The third panel simulates tritanope colorblindness}
TV: Um... check that
{Garfield turns to us}
Garfield: Maw-Maw went with her track shoes on
Caption: Volume 5
{We view Garfield from outside a window. For two panels, he looks out, right foreleg lying on the sill while the left props up his head. Suddenly, he imagines Jon to his right, carrying a cup of, in all likelihood, coffee}
Imaginary Jon: How are things outside?
{Garfield turns his head}
Garfield: Not much of a plot
Caption: Volume 6
{The form of Garfield is completely covered in black}
Garfield: There's never a dull moment around here
{beat}
Garfield: There are, however, dull years
Caption: Volume 7
Jon: The world could use more rainbows and butterflies
Garfield: Jon was under the sink fixing a leak...
Jon: And clay doggies
Garfield: when Odie jumped on him...
Jon: Real cute ones!
{Garfield uses a paw-finger to circle the respective spot on his head where an ear would be if he were human}
Garfield: and that's how he got the concussion

The author writes:

One day, I was perusing the SRoMG TV Tropes page when I had a thought. I had recently received the last — as in, the series is over — volume of the slice-of-life manga GA Geijutsuka Art Design Class, so I decided to use Garfield strips published on the release date of each volume of the manga. However, there are two dates listed on the Wikipedia page: The Japanese release date, and the English release date. Thus, a Japanese Release Date Edition and an English Release Date Edition.

For each strip, I tried to use something pertaining to the appropriate volume: a reference to something that happens, a graphic, something.

Thanks to Blake O'Hare's Nerd Paradise for the tip on reducing opacity in MS Paint.

Thanks to Vischeck for providing a means of simulating colorblindness.

Original strips: 2006-09-27, 2008-01-28, 2009-08-27, 2011-10-27, 2012-08-27, 2014-01-27, 2016-02-27.
