Scene 1a
- Overhead shot of drums, panning up to reveal interior of a nightclub, with a band and an MC on stage.
- Shot of MC, greeting audience enthusiastically.
- Shot of REGGIE and PETER in evening wear, seated at a small table. REGGIE looks excited, PETER is warily looking around.
- The MC speaks for a while then waves audience members up on to the dance floor.
- REGGIE pulls PETER along and they go out on to the floor.
- The MC produces two oranges and explains a game the nightclub patrons are about to play.
- The MC places an orange each under the chins of two women, an old dowdy woman, and a young attractive woman.
- The MC blows a whistle. Each woman turns to the next person behind her. The old woman is facing PETER.
- PETER proceeds to try to grab the orange under his own chin.
- The orange rolls down the old woman's front... PETER keeps trying to manipulate the orange under his chin without touching it with his hands. This leads to his face being in rather inappropriate places. REGGIE looks on with much amusement.
- (There are a few intercut shots of another man trying to get the orange from the young woman, on the other side of the floor, with much hilarity.)
- PETER eventually manages to move away with the orange under his chin.
Scene 1b
- PETER turns around to face REGGIE.
- He lunges at her, grabbing her in a tight embrace.
- They spin around, REGGIE laughing and struggling to transfer the orange.
- The two pause and look into each other's eyes.
- The moment passes, and the orange is transferred.
- REGGIE turns to the next man in the line. We see from behind he is balding and wearing glasses.
- The man grasps REGGIE and they spin around on the floor.
- We see his face - it is LEOPOLD GIDEON!
- Close up of REGGIE's face, in shock.
- The two struggle in a close grasp as GIDEON talks in REGGIE's ear.
- Low shot of REGGIE kicking GIDEON in the shin.
- REGGIE breaks free from GIDEON, grabs her jacket, and flees the club as PETER looks on mystified, and GIDEON limps around the floor with the orange now under his chin.
Scene 2
- REGGIE races downstairs in the nightclub.
- She spots a phone booth and enters it.
- She dials a number and waits for an answer.
- The booth door opens suddenly. TEX PENTHOLLOW is standing outside.
- REGGIE quickly hangs up the phone and makes to leave the booth.
- TEX moves in close so REGGIE is trapped.
- TEX begins speaking to her.
- TEX lights a cigarette, then holds the lit match up close to REGGIE's face.
- TEX drops the lit match. It falls into REGGIE's lap as she is squatting in the booth to get as far away from him as she can.
- In a panic, REGGIE brushes the lit match off her dress.
- TEX proceeds to light more matches as he talks, he holds one close to REGGIE's ear and hair, before dropping it.
- TEX light and drops more matches as he talks. REGGIE's panic grows.
- TEX departs. The booth door closes behind him.
- REGGIE breaths in relief. She extracts a sweet and puts it in her mouth to calm down.
- The door opens again suddenly. REGGIE screams!
- This time it is PETER. REGGIE is relieved.
- They exchange a few words.
Scene 3
- REGGIE and PETER enter a cheap hotel lobby. A man in a suit is asleep in an armchair in front of the reception desk.
- REGGIE goes behind the reception desk and grabs a key from the key-board. She stops to talk to PETER for a moment.
- They walk past the sleeping man to the lift.
- They get in and ride up together, talking.
- They exit the lift.
- They talk for a minute, then exchange parting words. PETER walks away.
- REGGIE turns to the door to a room, opens it, and goes inside.
Scene 4
- REGGIE turns the light on and begins removing her gloves.
- She looks up from her gloves, and screams!
- Shot from REGGIE's PoV, showing the interior of a rather shabby hotel room. Standing in the room is HERMAN SCOBIE.
- SCOBIE approaches REGGIE threateningly. His right hand gleams oddly.
- Close up of SCOBIE's right hand. It's not a hand, but a mechanical metal claw.
- SCOBIE advances on REGGIE, speaking as he does so. REGGIE backs away towards the door.
- SCOBIE lunges at REGGIE, raising his claw to strike her.
- REGGIE escapes through the door and slams it between them.
- SCOBIE's claw smashes a hole right through the door. REGGIE screams, but is safe for the moment.
- REGGIE runs for the stairs.
- PETER is running up the stairs.
- REGGIE indicates the room. PETER runs past her and into the room.
- Shot of PETER's and SCOBIE's shadows on the room door, fighting.
- The door slams closed.
- REGGIE looking frightened.
- REGGIE becomes concerned and goes to the door.
- She listens at the door, then opens it cautiously.
- The room appears empty.
- PETER appears from behind the bed; he was lying on the floor.
- PETER gets up and goes to the window.
