Strips Needing Dialogue:

Strips Recently Published:

Awkward Fumbles is our comic in which readers get to submit dialogue-free artwork, and other readers then write the dialogue, with no other reference to what the artist may (or may not have) intended.

The goal is to produce comics that startle and amaze, with humorous disconnects between the expectations of the art and the actual dialogue. Or we can just try to make them hilarious.

  • Artists: Feel free to submit new artwork, following the example pages shown here. Art must not contain any captions or dialogue. You may add explicit speech bubbles, caption boxes, and space for words, or just leave it out and let us paste speech bubbles over the top.
  • Writers: Please write dialogue for any strip that tickles your fancy. Add dialogue as text on the strip's page, labeled with your preferred name or nom de plume for credit purposes. Please also suggest a strip title. If you prefer to work without seeing what other people have suggested first, avoid looking at the dialogue submission page until you have written a script. Dialogue must be short enough to fit reasonably within the art. Original artwork images may be large, but final images will be scaled down to no larger than 800 pixels in one dimension.
  • Readers: You may comment on submitted dialogues, indicating which ones you think are good, or offer modifications.

We will handle adding dialogue to strip images. Or if you have the skills and wish to do it yourself, feel free to add the dialogue and submit a completed strip image. You may do this for images already published, but you may not assemble a strip if it is your own artwork or dialogue.

We (the Comic Irregulars) will decide when a strip has dialogue suitable enough to use, and will publish it on Awkward Fumbles. There is no voting process. We are the final and only judges. We may modify submitted dialogue slightly. We'll try to be nice about it all, though. :-)

Submission Templates

For artists submitting work, here are a couple templates you can use to instantly create pages.

After uploading your file (see toolbox on lefthand side), enter the following at the bottom of the submitted art:

{{subst:Fumbles Submission Art| image=imagename.jpg | title=striptitle | number=1 }}

Where the imagename.jpg is your uploaded image file (including extention), the striptitle is what you would call the strip (not necessarily the image's name), and the number is the number of the next fumble (usually one more than what the nav bar says).

After saving the page and making sure it looks correct, edit the new page and enter in the following line:

{{subst:Fumbles Submission Page| image=imagename.jpg | title=stripTitle | artist=creditedArtistName | comment=yourCommentHere }}

Where the imagename.jpg and striptitle are the same as before, the artist is the name you would like to see credited for the art, and the comment is any artist comment you would like to leave. If you have no comment, leave that field blank. After saving, this will create a new page with the correct format.

Here's another example of the two templates:

((subst:Fumbles Submission Page| image=22panels_2.jpg | title=Noir | number=10 }}
{{subst:Fumbles Submission Page| image=22panels_2.jpg | title=Noir | artist=DMM | comment=This looks completely awesome. }}

If these don't work for you, make the changes with some good ol' fashioned copy-paste.
